aka. the lionskin man; download for fullview
On the other hand, looking at it 5 months after drawing it, I think it now resembles Heracles more than Gilgamesh....

I had read the Epic of Gilgamesh before, but the book that drew my attention to Gilgamesh's mourning of Enkidu was In the Skin of a Lion, by Michael Ondaatje (it's a novel set in 1920s Toronto, and the prequel to his more well-known English Patient).

The lines are (quoted from the overleaf of aforementioned novel):

The joyful will stoop with sorrow, and when you have gone to the earth I will let my hair grow long for your sake, I will wander through the wilderness in the skin of a lion.

This is also a part-tribute to a far superior representation of Gilgamesh's mourning, here.

Pencils, watercolour, and a little bit of Photoshop

I have finally made a conclusion after staring at this drawing for a full five minutes. And I shall now condense my complex thoughts into the following words:

Yep, that is pretty kick-ass. YOU GET A WIN STICKER!

*STICKER ON FOREHEAD!*
